Govardhan, 2018.05.11 (VT): The SDM of Govardhan has come under fire after he wore shoes in the yagya sthal of Sankarshan kund yesterday. The SDM was at the sacred site to issue a notice to The Braj Foundation that all further restoration work must be registered with the NGT.
Photos of SDM Sarvagyaram Mishra wearing shoes in the yagya sthal came out on Twitter yesterday along with the comment, “Even the British Collectors had sensitivities towards the local faith of Hindus.
This incident follows in the wake of the disturbance of Govardhan Shilas by officials of the Rajasthan Government who decided to put “Welcome to Rajasthan sign” only 10 metres from Shri Govardhan.
Anand Yadav, who witnessed the incident, said that despite the protests of sewaiyats, the SDM entered the sacred area while wearing shoes. Rajesh Kapoor, the secretary of The Braj Foundation, said that he would raise the matter in the NGT on the 16th May.
The deity at Sankarshan kund was installed in a week long ceremony at the end of last year. During the ceremony, celebrities including Ramdev Baba conducted abhishek of Shankarshan Bhagwan, which is now the largest deity in Braj. Unfortunately, at this time, the SDM could not be contacted although Braj Foundation officials said that attempts were made to call him to the ceremony.
The The Braj Foundation has installed a boundary and gate to protect the kund and deity, however, the organization was informed on Wednesday that access to the kund should not be restricted.
The Pradan (head) of Anyor Village, Guddi Devi, has come out in support of The Braj Foundation saying that the Foundation is doing important work and should not be hampered in their efforts to restore and enhance the beauty of Braj’s kunds. The SDM was in Delhi today and said that he has not yet received the letter.
