Delhi, 2018.03.03 (VT) The Yamuna in Braj may be about to become cleaner as Delhi BJP leader, Manoj Tiwari has unveiled plans to stop Delhi drains from running into the river. The minister said that seaplanes will land in the river within 5 years. He said that the Sabarmati river in Gujarat had dried up but PM Modi recently landed on the river in a seaplane after the BJP’s efforts to revive the river were successful.
The Yamunosa project, will see the digging of a 500 m wide channel. The current width of Yamuna floodplain in Delhi goes up to several kilometers in most of the 48 km long stretch of the river in Delhi. The name Yamunosa refers to the Sentosa Island resort in Singapore as the Government is hoping that the revived Yamuna river will become a major tourist attractions.
Tiwari said that no drain will be allowed to empty into the Yamuna and that clean water will be added to the river. Drains will empty into a single drain that will lead to a new sewage treatment plant on the outskirts of Delhi. The new sewage treatment plant will also produce electricity from the waste water. The minister said that further details of the project will be revealed in the coming weeks.
