Barsana, 2017.05.28 (VT): Energy Minister Shrikant Sharma visited Barsana’s Maan Mandir on Sunday to pay his respects to Shri Ramesh Baba. During the one-hour meeting, Babaji Maharaj expressed his thoughts about the plight of the Shri Yamuna River.
Ramesh Baba is a highly respected holy man and a successful advocate for Braj’s heritage. In addition to his activism for the Yamuna river, thousands of trees have been planted by his organization, more than thirty historic kunds (holy lakes) have been restored, and 5,300 hectares of land were saved from illegal mining.
With the BJP currently in power, Baba’s question was, if not now, then when?
Baba went on to say that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a good man, but he has not understood the bhaav of the Brajwasis. It seems that he is not serious about Yamuna, otherwise some major action would have been initiated by now.
Over the last four years, Shri Ramesh Baba has led three major demonstrations for the Yamuna’s revival. Thousands of Saints and Brajwasis marched to Delhi multiple times, followed by forceful protests in Jantar Mantar. But after all their heartfelt efforts, all they have received is empty promises.
Baba revealed that on one occasion, the Central Minister Ravishankar Prasad personally assured them that the government had heard their voice and that something would be done. But no action was ever taken.
“If the BJP does not do something about Yamuna, who will?” Baba reiterated.
Shrikant Sharma assured the saint that the BJP government is serious about Yamunaji and something will certainly be done. Thereafter Sharma enjoyed a tour of Maan Mandir’s Mataji Gaushala.
Government help is vital to restoring the Yamuna River to its pristine state. After emerging at Yamunotri high in the Himalayas, eighty-five percent of the Yamuna’s water is held back at Hathini Kund in Harayana. Only fifteen percent travels on to Uttar Pradesh, and a mere three percent reaches Delhi.
No water from Yamunotri actually reaches Vrindavan, except perhaps in the monsoon season.
Thousands of crores of rupees have been spent on Yamuna projects, and Supreme Court orders have been made and ignored, yet we see no results after all these years.
