Govardhan 2016.07.05 (VT): The internal disputes between the two main temple involved in the Muriya festival has resulted in two separate shobha yatras this year. The two temples, namely Radha Shyam Sundar and Chaitanya Mahaprabhu temples, both of which are located at Chakleshwar, have been doing their own parade with kirtan for the past 15 years.
During Muriya festival, Gaudiya Vaishnavas and others honor the memory of Sanatan Goswami by shaving their head and doing Govardhan Parikrama. This year, since the mahantas of both temples, Tamal Krishna Das of Radha Shyam Sundar and Mahant Tulsi Das of the Mahaprabhu temple, devotees wanted to consolidate the two into one. But after a failure on the part of the new temple heads to come to an agreement, the plan was cancelled. Thus there will be two shobha yatras’ at Govardhan again this year.
The shobha yatra from Radha Shyam Sundar temple will start at 10 am, whereas the one starting from the Mahaprabhu temple will leave at 6 p.m.
Mahant Ram Krishna Das of Radha Shyam Sundar temple announced the shobha yatra schedule on Monday. He said that the adhivasa of the festival will be held on July 14 at the temple. They will have Gaur Govind leela kirtan on July 15 followed by an evening of religious songs (bhajana sandhya). July 16 is reserved for Hari Katha and Sanatan Goswami katha. Bhagwat Katha and Gaudiya math legends will be told on July 17, followed by a remembrance celebration of Sanatan Goswami on July 18. The programme ends with worship of the Bhagwat, Sri Guru and Sanatan Goswami on July 19.
