Mathura 2016.04.25 (VT): Fresh drinking water is a matter of concern in the area of Akos and Barauni. Villagers from these areas are bound to drink salty water because as the ground water here has become poisonous due to pollution. Arsenic was found in the water of this area over a decade ago, but no steps have been taken since then.
The village of Nagla Sanja, Charanbar Burj Sukhdev, Nagla Badna, and Barauliui have been facing fresh drinking water problem for over a decade. The ground water level is decreasing at rapid speed. The water from the hand-pumps usually contains iron and is salty, which is having adverse effect on the people drinking it. But despite of such critical situation, neither the Water Board nor the administration has done anything about it.
The village administration board informed our correspondent that the wells have been dry for over a decade. The water tanks built by the Water Board spending lacs of rupees, never got functional. As a result people are bound to drink salty water from the hand-pumps installed at their homes.
The ground water level has gone done by more than 10 feet in these villages. The normal ground water level in the Akos-Barauni areas is at 150 meters from the ground level. But in the villages of Nagla Sanja, Charanbar Burj Sukhdev, Nagla Badna, and Barauliui, the ground water level has gone down to 160 meters and frequently goes down further
