Mathura, 2011.08.21 (AU): In the leadup to Sri Krishna Janmashtami, schools around Braj have started a new tradition of having the children compete to see who looks most like the child Krishna in his cowherd dress. In Mathura, many schools held such competitions this year.
The Saraswati Shishu Mandir (“Saraswati, the goddess of learning’s temple for children”) in Deen Dayal Nagar was one such school where 57 children participated. The occasion was opened with the customary lamplighting ceremony, with Vijay Agarwal and Minalal Agarwal presiding. Then scenes from Krishna’s childhood were enacted, with his naughty deed bringing the children and parents in the audience great amusement.
One winner was chosen from each grade level, LKG, UKG and Grade 1.
