Last month, UP Chief Minister Mayawati made “surprise” inspections in Lucknow, Agra, Noida, Ghaziabad and Varanasi as well as the Etawah, Mainpuri and Auraiyya districts. Now she is about to undertake another round of development inspections, visiting 72 districts. Mathura and Vrindavan are likely candidates, considering her emphasis last December on completion of large-scale projects in the area like the Parikrama Marg in Vrindavan.
UP Government press release re: infrastructure “saturation” and installment of full tourism facilities in Mathura and Vrindavan, including the rumored Vrindavan ropeway, which some say has been conceptualized to run from the far side of the Yamuna over to Banke Bihari Mandir.
Mayawati to surprise officials again
With her announcement to undertake another round of `surprise inspection’ in 72 districts of UP, chief minister Mayawati, on Wednesday, asked the officials to pull up their socks. The benchmark for appraisal would be their performance vis-a-vis removal of shortcomings pointed out by the CM during her earlier tour.
Addressing top civil and police officials in a review meeting here at Tilak Hall, Mayawati said, “I will review that how far the directives given earlier have been followed.” Those found guilty of lapses would be dealt with even more strictly this time, she added. Law and order should be maintained at all costs and notorious criminals should be rounded up without any delay. The lapses and flaws detected in first review should be taken care of and a methodology should be developed in which delivery mechanism showed signs of radical improvement at grassroots levels, Mayawati said. She stressed on her commitment to remove corruption and effectively deal with cases related to harassment of women and crimes against children.
