No construction within 500 mtrs
29.03.2011 (TNN): The Allahabad High Court on Monday directed that there would be no construction within 500 metres of the midstream of river Ganga and Yamuna by the Allahabad Development Authority or by any other private agency.
Passing this order, a division bench consisting of Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice Arun Tandon directed the authorities concerned to file a reply regarding repairing of roads in the Sangam city, which were dug up to lay sewage lines.
Passing this order, the court directed to hear the PIL on April 22, 2011. The court has also directed the state government to review the Navpragam awas scheme on the bank of Yamuna.
As per the direction of the court, chief secretary, UP, Atul Kumar Gupta was present in the court. He apprised the court about the steps taken by the state government for removal of pollution from river Ganga.
Additional solicitor general of India, Dr Ashok Nigam appeared on behalf of the central government, additional advocate general, SG Hasnain and MC Chaturvedi, chief standing counsel appeared for the state government.
Amicus curie, AK Gupta apprised the court about the position of pollution in river Ganga.
