Kosikalan, 2018.01.23 (VT) In a mass wedding ceremony designed to end the stigma that girls face as being a burden on their families and relieve poor families of the pressure of having to pay for their daughter’s wedding, 111 couples were married on stage at a program held on the auspicious occasion of Vasant Panchami.
The program was conducted by Prabhat Jagruti Manch and Jai Shani Dev Seva Samiti under the Chief Minister’s Group Wedding Scheme. As well as the families of the couples involved, members of the public also attended the ceremony.
The couples received blessings from dignitaries such as State Power Minister-State Government Member for Mathura, Mr Shrikant Sharma and Kokilavan Mahant, Premdas Maharaj. Premdas Maharaj lit the lamp to begin the ceremony and Delhi Legislative Assembly member, Ram Niwas Goel. addressed the audience, saying that daughters are precious and due to collective marriage ceremonies, respect for the daughters is increasing.
