Vrindavan, 2017.06.09 (VT): UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a meeting on Thursday to discuss the devlopment of Mathura and Vrindavan. Mathura MP Hema Malini and Energy Minister Shrikant Sharma from Mathura were present at the the meeting.
Initial reports, based on statements from Malini and Sharma, reveal that the State Government plans to create a tram system to help manage the traffic situation. They have also proposed a large network of new roads, including paving the entire 84-krosh parikrama marg.
In addition, a kuccha (earthen) strip will be added to Vrindavan’s parikrama marg, a pilgrimage footpath which is currently being used as a ring road for cars, making it very difficult for pilgrims who make the journey on foot or by bowing.
The tram project alone will cost Rs. 899 crore, according to Sharma.
According to TOI, Hema Malini said that the plan includes a “unique Krishna Theme Park on the pattern of Disneyland”. She also claimed that the Yamuna Riverfront Project will soon be completed, however the project is currently being disputed in the court and will likely be abandoned.
Malini also demanded that Mathura, due to its proximity to Delhi, should join Noida and Gurgaon as part of Delhi’s National Capital Region (NCR).
Devotees in Vrindavan have expressed shock and dismay at the statements by Malini and Sharma, which do not address any of the most important issues the town faces, such as the horrendous sewage problem and the completely dysfunctional garbage collection system.
The proposed Krishna Theme Park and 300-foot Krishna statue at Govardhan, announced earlier, have been denounced as frivolous by community members.
