Vrindavan, 2017.06.02 (VT): The Banke Bihari temple administration has banned devotees from offering ghee lamps in the temple after a woman’s saree caught fire this week.
Due to the crowds, devotees entering from door number three of the temple are often hurt by other devotees attempting to offer lamps to the Deity. Generally people just accept this as part of the austerity of trying to get their beloved Banke Bihari’s darshan.
However, after one’s woman’s saree caught on fire, the temple authorities have decided that only the priests will be allowed to burn lamps in the sanctum sanctorum, for the safety of the pilgrims. The temple management also gifted the woman a new saree.
