Vrindavan, 2017.02.05 (VT) Recently, Braj’s own Mathura Junction railway station was in the news when it nabbed several awards for cleanliness and excellent service.
On Thursday night, the station again became the site of good news, when the Government Railway Police (GRP) captured four suspects accused of terrorizing passengers on the New Delhi-Jhansi route.
Raj Kumar from Auriya, Rinku Sharma from Aligarh, Narendar Yadav and Ram Singh from Firozabad have allegedly threatened passengers with knives and homemade firearms to extort valuables from them.
The Times of India reported that the thieves were caught with an estimated seven lakhs (700,000 rupees) worth of stolen goods. Recovered items include eighteen smart phones and three laptops, gold jewelery and a tablet.
Not all news is good news at Mathura Junction however: in January of 2016, officials found a severed head at the far end of platform one; the place and cause of the woman’s death a mystery. More recently, film actor Akshay Kumar’s bodyguard Mr. Manoj Sharma died whilst attempting to disembark from a moving train at Mathura Junction’s platform number two.
