Vrindavan, 2016.11.03 (VT): The controversy over organizing an atheist convention in Vrindavan is not coming to an end soon. The religious leaders of Vrindavan are up in arms against the organizers of the event. They have been constantly demanding the arrest of Balendu and his brothers Purnendu and Yashendu.
The proposed two-day convention on atheism, which was scheduled to commence on 13th October, was canceled when a large number of religious leaders and Vrindavan residents created ruckus outside of the ashram of Balendu, the Chief organizer of the event.
A meeting was held in Ram Mandir at Atalla Chungi on Thursday, in a protest against Balendu and his brothers. The meeting was attended by a large number of Vrindavan residents, religious leaders and right-wing activists. The meeting unanimously resolved to intensify the protest till the organizers are arrested. It also called for a social boycott of the organizers.
A six-point memorandum was also prepared addressing the District Magistrate and was handed over to the City Magistrate, Shri Ram Araj Yadav, who was also invited to the meeting.
Swami Ramdevananda Saraswati warned, “If the organizers of the conference are not arrested, then the monks of Vrindavan will come take to streets in order to intensify the agitation.”
Bal Yogeshwarananda and Swami Raghunath Das said these people have been commenting negatively against every religion on social media. They are just publicity seekers, and have no right to hurt the feelings of others who are believers.”
Mahant Fuldol Bihari Das and Mahamandaleshwar Naval Giri said these people are defaming Vrindavan’s culture and spreading lies about the religion.
Gopeshwar Nath Chaturvedi said, “ Religion and belief in God is a personal subject and anyone who dubs religious scripture as fake is sending a very wrong message.”
Ram Swaroop Brahmachari, Swami Brahma Chaitanya, Swami Bhaskarananda, Captain Harihar Sharma, BJP leader Ravi Kant Garg, Devendra Sharma, Rajesh Pandit, Raju Dwivedi, Devkinandan, Shri Krishna Saras, Jagdish Guru, Bishnukant Sharma, Sunil Chaturvedi, Haribol Maharaj, Kapil Upadhyay, Pramod Gautam, Raghav Bharadwaj, Acharya Banwari Lal Gaud, Dev Muraru Bapu, Vijay Kishor Mishra, Rajendra Upadhyay and others were present at the protest meeting.
The meeting was organised under the banner of Dharma Raksha Sangh.
